The problems and examples that we go over in our book and in class aren't always all that relevant to our daily lives. We often use inequalities when are just going about our lives. Here is an example that will put this into context. You have $150 in your pocket and you are stopping by a shopping plaza on the way home. Your mom asks you to pick up some groceries while your out. Your mom needs you to get eggs, milk, bread, beef, apples, and gatorade. The eggs will be $6, the milk is $5, the bread is $2, the beef is $8, the apples are $5, and the gatorade is $4. All these groceries together are $30. You also would like to buy a pair of shoes and get some nike socks. If your shoes cost $110. The socks cost $2.50 for one pack with three pairs of socks. How many pairs of socks can you buy? $6+$5+$2+$8+$5+$4+$110+$2.50(x) is less than or equal to $150 you would combine like terms (add together everything except 2.50(x)) and you would get $140+2.50(x) is less than or equal to $150 then you would subtract $140 from both sides and get $10 is less than or equal to 2.50(x) so x is less than or equal to $5 in context this means you can spend up to five dollars on socks. which gives you two packs of socks.

  2. I found this website really helpful because a lot of times I think that there is no point in learning about certain things in math because I would never use them later on in life, but this website really shows how important linear inequalities are, and how they really do apply in real life. When I read the example that was on the website, it helped me realize how I use inequalities when I go to movies and I have to think about how much money I have for a ticket and snacks, and I never thought about that until now. I think that using real life examples makes math seem less scary, and it was really helpful looking at this website.

  3. When i read the response on wikianswers, it made me realize that we do use inequalities everyday, without even realizing it. And i wouldnt have ever thought about that until you showed us this website. After i read the example, it made me think whenever i go to the mall and go shopping and theres a sale, and i cant decide between 2 shirts i always see which one will be marked down the most after i use my coupon, and thats the one i get. In my opinion I think this website was helpful.

  5. When I read what was on the wiki answers I realized that we use parts of math in our everyday lives. The example we were given was really helpful and I think that it will make me think about math next time I am buying multiple items. An example could be someone trying to figure out how much coke they should buy and how many packs of M&M's they should buy from the vending machine.Inequalities are used to figure out how much of each product you should buy when you are purchasing more than one item. I thought the wiki answers was good to read, and it had a good example.

  6. I found this a good example and relation of a real world problem but it could have been worded better. Also how did you find x? you did not explain this in the problem.

  7. I felt like the websites explanation of how people use linear inequalities everyday, weather they are aware of it or now. They gave an interesting example of how people naturally solve a inequalities while going about their daily lives. When the paragraph was giving the example about how people deducted how much they can by with their limited amount of money. I felt like they gave solid examples of how simple inequalities can really be, and how they are not as complicated as some people make them, and the website defiantly proved that people really do use math when they are not in school.
I felt like the class example was a very good example as well of how someone might solve a price limit in their head. His given solution was also a reasonable conclusion that made sense when it is applied to the equation.
