y=f(x). This is function notation.

To solve an expression for f(x) step 1: solve the equation for y.  Step 2: replace y with f(x).

Here is an equation
Find F(-2)
F(x) = X squared +1
F(-2) = (-2) squared +1
F(-2)= 4+1
F(-2) = 5
